  13. What is the process for dropping off my child?
School starts this year at 8:50 a.m. Therefore, students should not be dropped off any earlier than 8:35 a.m. because there is no one available to supervise them prior to this time. Cars are not allowed in the front circle between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. so you will need to drop your child off in the lower parking lot by the loading dock. If a student needs to be dropped off later than 8:50am, please call the “Safe Arrival” line and indicate that your child will be late and when you bring them to school come into the office, sign in the student to ensure that they are not marked absent, and they will be sent to class.
  14. What is the process for picking my child up at school?
If you will be picking your child up from school you need to send in a dismissal note to the classroom with your child in the morning. This ensures that both the teacher and the office are aware of the dismissal plans for that day. Dismissal notes are available in the office and also on the Merriam website (dismissal form). Your child can either be dismissed outside to the car pick-up line, as a walker, or you can pick them up in the lobby. Please make sure your child knows their dismissal plan and location. If your child needs to be dismissed early, you should also send in a dismissal note in the morning to the classroom indicating the time you will be picking up your child. In this case, you will need to go into the office, sign out the student, then the office will call for them to come to the lobby. We strongly encourage parents not to pick students up between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30p.m. as this is a very busy time in the classroom.
  15. What is the best way to contact teachers during the day?
As you can appreciate, teachers are very busy during the school day. If you need to contact a teacher, the best method is to send e-mail or leave a voicemail. Teachers will generally respond to e-mail and voicemail at the end of the school day. If you need to reach a teacher urgently, contact the main office staff and they will get a message to the teacher.
